Cybex, Thule or Bugaboo: a comparison with no winner
Cybex, Thule and Bugaboo are among the most sought-after brands in the second-hand branded pram market, and it is no coincidence that they appear most frequently in listings. However, each brand is based on a different philosophy and suits a different type of family. The aim of this comparison is not to pick a winner but to highlight the differences that allow for a reasoned decision, based on your own needs, not a ranking list.
Philosophy of three brands
Cybex is a German brand (now part of the Goodbaby group) built on safety engineering. Models such as Priam or Balios S feature an advanced suspension system and are designed with emphasis on compatibility with their own car seats. Cybex targets parents who want a technically thought-out product and are not afraid to pay extra for it.
Thule It is a Swedish brand with strong roots in sports equipment, bicycles, roof boxes, cycling saddles. This tradition is evident in their prams too: models like the Urban Glide are built for active parents who run, go off-road and want a pram that can handle more than just the pavement.
Bugaboo It is a Dutch brand that practically defined the category of modern design prams twenty years ago. The Fox and Bee models are known for their balanced ratio of comfort, weight and flexibility, and above all for the fact that the system can be expanded to a double pram (Donkey), which you will not find to such an extent with the other two brands.
Odolnost a stavba
Cybex relies on an aluminium frame with an emphasis on structural rigidity: the Priam with pneumatic tyres handles uneven pavements or light terrain. Thule goes furthest in durability: frames are sized for regular jogging and longer routes outside the city, with a stiffer front fork and more pronounced suspension. Bugaboo is somewhere in between, robust enough for everyday urban use and trips to the park, but without the ambition to compete with pure running models.
Service and parts availability
All three brands have representation in the Czech Republic with available spare parts, which is crucial for a second-hand purchase: a worn wheel or cover need not mean the end of the pram's life. Bugaboo has the most extensive network of accessories and spare parts among the trio, thanks to its long-standing market presence. Cybex benefits from belonging to a large group with its own service network. Thule parts are mainly available in cycle-specialist shops and online stores: the selection is somewhat narrower, but common consumable parts (wheels, brakes) are readily obtainable.
Residual value
All three brands sell reliably and quickly on the second-hand market, which is precisely why this website was created. Bugaboo has long maintained a reputation as the brand with the highest residual value, mainly thanks to its iconic models and demand for the expandable Donkey system. Cybex follows closely behind, Priam and Balios sell well even after several years of use. Thule has slightly lower demand on the general second-hand market (it is a niche, more specialised brand), but among active parents who specifically seek it out, it holds its price very well.
Which brand suits which user
- Cybex - families looking for a technically sophisticated pram with an emphasis on safety and compatibility with their own car seat. View second-hand Cybex.
- Thule - active parents who run, go off-road or spend a lot of time outside the city. View second-hand Thule.
- Bugaboo - families planning a second child or seeking a pram with the widest range of accessories and highest residual value. View second-hand Bugaboo.
If more than one of these three appeals to you, do not decide based on paper specifications alone. Try the pram in person at a friend's or in a shop, push it, turn it on the spot, remove and reattach the seat. Differences in handling are often clearer by feel than from a table.
